How To Use Arimidex?

Treating breast cancer in certain women who have been through menopause, including women with disease progression after tamoxifen therapy. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by lowering blood estradiol concentrations, which may decrease the size and growth of the tumor.

Generic Arimidex (Anastrozole) is indicated for adjuvant treatment (post-surgery treatment with or without radiation) of hormone receptor-positive early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women.

It is used as a first-line treatment of hormone receptor-positive or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer (spreading of the disease to another part of the body) in postmenopausal women.

Anastrozole is also indicated for the treatment of advanced breast cancer with disease progression after the tamoxifen therapy in postmenopausal women. However, the drug is hardly responded by patients having ER-negative disease and patients with no response to preceding tamoxifen treatment.

The dose of Anastrozole (Arimidex) tablet is one 1 mg tablet taken once a day. For patients with advanced breast cancer, Anastrozole tablets should be continued until tumor progression. Anastrozole tablets can be taken with or without food.

For adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer in postmenopausal women, the optimal duration of therapy is unknown. In the ATAC trial, Anastrozole tablet was administered for five years. [see Clinical Studies (14.1)]

No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment or for elderly patients. [see Use in Specific Populations (8.6)]
